Cometic's MLS head gasket for BMW M42/M44 engines is a multi-layer steel gasket engineered for reliable sealing in 1989–1998 BMW 318 and Z3 applications with an 85mm bore. Compressed thickness is 0.098" and embossed stainless outer layers are coated with Viton for heat and chemical resistance. The uncoated center shim allows thickness variation, improving load distribution and reducing clamp load and bore distortion without sealants.
