The COMP Cams CS 288A-R6 camshaft uses a .900" base circle and is aimed at heavy cars with smaller displacement packages, providing a grind that works well on short tracks. It favors tractable midrange response for heavier late-model machines. The cam is optimized for melanized or nitrided distributor gears; it will not fit 1955–1957 small-block Chevrolets that require the rear journal oiling-groove variant.
